The sleek and smooth design of the Quad 7 building in the Auckland International Airport office precinct features the APL 175mm structural glaze system, with a number of customised adaptations to accommodate both 38mm thick double glazed units for the upper façade, and varying single glaze thickness for the setback ground level glazing. At 2.4m wide and weighing around 900kg each, the ground floor glass panels provided an installation challenge to Wight’s site team.
Wight Aluminium and APL collaborated on the design of a bespoke 90 degree corner mullion for the project as well as vertical aluminium sun control fins which span the upper floors at each end of the 70m long building. The external stairs on the southern face of the building were clad in a unitised aluminium mesh screen; designed and supplied by Wight Aluminium.
This Five Green Star rated building collected the NZIA Local Architecture Award (Commercial) in 2017.
